Northern lights
Friday bcc stayed over at Unni’s and before we went to bed, we went out to check the sky for northern lights.
It was a really really clear night. And coz except for the lights from the houses on the island, it’s pretty dark around, so we could see the whole sky filled up with stars. And when I mean filled up, I mean as though someone dropped glitter all over floor that kind of filled up. That’s the good thing about living so far up north. You get a sky full of stars and not just a little here and there.
In the distance behind the cow house, we see some white in the sky. Bcc and I walk down the driveway towards the main road. And there it was in the sky, a faint glow of white. I was about to go into a ‘that’s it?!’ moment, but after standing there for longer, we saw it slowly moving down, towards the right, getting brighter and dimmer at times. It’s like a thin screen of smoke, moving ever so slowly and gracefully across the sky, you wouldn’t even notice how much it had moved.
After a while, it faded away into the black of the sky. Bcc says if I stayed up longer, I’d probably be able to see more. But coz I had to get up early for the morning milk the following day, I decided not to. After all, it’s very likely I’d be seeing more of it before I leave.
So there you have it. My first official sighting of the northern lights (well not counting the faint streaks which I saw the other time and did not know what it was). White somemore (Bcc says it’s the first time she’s ever seen white, coz mostly it’s green)
Oh yah and the pic up there... obviously a better camera is needed
