Mother-cow-to-be

0512’s neighbour is going to give birth soon. (I have no idea what her number is coz she’s the latest cow to join the milking cows in getting her own individual stall rather than roam the fields with the other 7 young cows. Besides I remember her from her size, coz being a younger non-milking cow, she’s a little smaller than the rest of the big girls).

The past week, she’s been really ballooning up. Her udder’s grown so tremendously, it looks like it’s gonna burst any moment. Unni tells me she’s getting soft around the tail area so that when the time comes, she can just squeeze the little guy out with relative ease. But still not soft enough yet.


Thursday, Inge takes out the camera. It’s a small camera which is mounted just behind her on the window so that she can be monitered from inside the house in case she should go into labour when no one is in the cow house.



Expected due date is the 9th. But of course it can come anytime before or after. So it’s just a matter of waiting it out now.

The last time a calf was born on the farm, I was a few hours late to witness it. The next birth would be the end of October, by which I’d be in hot hot Singapore. So there’s no way I’m gonna miss this one now.
