Eating out

Last week on my day off, Bcc, Trond and I went out for dinner at a fancy place by the water’s edge. Which turned out to be a totally hilarious experience. All coz of one waiter’s goon-du-ness.

The waiter who served us was a big and tall guy, and very blur looking. He’d made the table and tossed us some napkins. Which to begin with weren’t very properly folded.

Trond and I ordered a set. Which included a starter, main course and a dessert. Bcc only ordered the main course (fish). When we told the waiter what we had decided on, he asked Bcc, ‘then what would you be doing when they are eating the starter?’……

????!?!!?!

The meal was nice. I had Ravioli for my starter

Raindeer for the main course (no more Christmas!!! WHAHAHAHA!)

And Crème Brule and Mango Sherbet

After the meal, Bcc had regular coffee and Trond had some fluffy coffee. And our blur waiter, living up to his expectations, served Trond his fluffy coffee in a cup without a saucer. It looked so sad, so Bcc gave Trond her saucer. Which ended up looking seriously undersized. And oh yah, the coffee wasn't even fluffy at all. Looked more like weak milo

?????!?!?!

The biggest drama of the night unfolded when the bill came. Bcc and I had been to the toilet and when we came back, Trond had already paid for the bill. He paid a whopping KR2527 (SGD631.75) for the meal. And of course Bcc then demanded to see the bill.

To recap, here’s what we should be paying for
- 2 sets (which includes 2 Ravioli, 2 meats, 2 desserts)
- 1 fish
- 1 regular coffee
- 1 supposedly fluffy coffee
- 1 beer
- 1 red wine

According to the receipt, here’s what was paid for
- 2 Ravioli
- 2 meats
- 2 sets
- 1 fish
- 2 regular coffee
- 2 Munkholm (which is an alcoholic free beer. If you are caught drinking this, it’s as good as ordering milk in a bar)
- 2 Carlsberg
- 1 beer
- 2 red wines

and finally, this just cracks me up

.
.
.
.

- 2 books

??!??!!?!???!??!??!

As you can see, our genius waiter pretty much included everything that was selling in the restaurant into the receipt and multiplied em by 2. But he left out the supposedly fluffy coffee. There was enough food there to feed a family of 5.

After much discussion with the other waitress, she had returned Trond KR760 (SGD190).

Before heading home, we dropped by Bacalao where I had my Hot chocolate!! A short while later, the waitress from the restaurant comes running in, well apparently she returned us the wrong amount. And handed Trond another KR400 (SGD100).It was only then when we all sat down to examine the receipt closely. And just to doublecheck, it was time to whip out the calculator.

Of course with all this additions going on, I was best left out of it.

So there you have it, a night of good food and alot of maths.

O to be in S'pore where the price tag on a product or a bill at a restaurant means what it says it means. No adding tax or tip because it is all there plain as day.

Worst thing to do here in a group dining situation is to be the one sorting out the bill at the end because you will end up being the one to top up the INEVITABLE shortfall or asking round the table for people to throw in a few more dollars for tip tax and all kinds of extra. Like that, I'd rather be charged "hot towel" or "chopstick" money.

Eating out in Norway, you can request for separate bills for a party of 2 couples, you can tell the waitress to bill separately, right down to splitting the cost of the bottle of wine!! The price published in menu is inclusive of all taxes etc, so it is the final price, there is no 10% or 3% or whatever added at the end of the bill … the tip is actually not necessary in Norway (as in US) but people do it anyway..
This is not normal in Singapore what about US ?
