On an unrelated note

My external hard disk crashed. Yah, the one that i used to back up all the stuff i have in my laptop. All the essays i've ever written in nus, all 20GB of my photos. pp and i brought it back to the shop to get it checked. They thought the problem lay with the casing and so they had it changed... to a funky red one somemore. But still the same. The guy says he can't do anything to retrieve the data, but tell us there are people with 'special tools' who can get the job done. As though it were some big secret like that. Anyhow, he goes on to suggest someone who can help with the data recovery. It's gonna cost 200 freaking dollars, and i don't even know if he can get back everything.

Eriee thing is that both times my hard disks crashed, cl had actually mentioned to me before hand twice on seperate ocassions to back up my laptop and external hard disk up. Ha, it's like how Oprah always says that before something goes wrong, there's always this little whisper that comes to you first. Cl's like the voice from the techno-god... so next time she dishes out any advice on computers, better to take it and run.

Technology sucks... it's unreliable, troublesome and costly.

Note to self: back-ups crash too... seriously consider sticking to the good old film camera!

don't even ask how's my packing coming along... coz i've decided to go along with the idea of letting anxiety levels swell first

If it is the external hard drive that crashed means you still got your original files in laptop right? If you don't have them and those were your only copies then maybe worth it to spend the money for data retrieval.

But I actually read somewhere that if you put the hard drive in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer for a while it will run again temporarily, perhaps long enough for some data to come off. However that may be a one-off strategy so better to leave it to the professionals, or some computer type people who know exactly what they are doing.

But of course all this has to wait till you come back first right.

Some info here and here.

i guess sometimes the hard disk has spasms of data accessing abilities. last time my laptop crashed, the blue screen of death that kind. i let it sit for 1mth while i was in nz, then i switched it on and it worked! so luckily managed to fish out everything before i got the whole hard disk changed. and so the external hard disk was the only place i had my files coz after the new hard disk in the laptop, i didnt transfer the files back...

wha the freezer thing sounds like magic man. seems reliable since so many ppl swear by it...aiyah too late ald, i sent it for the data recovery. *heh*, pp's paying for it coz he's helping me pick it up from sim lim...so hengggg ah ;p
